Calf Implants

Calf implants add shape and volume to the lower leg for people whose calves stay thin and undefined no matter how much they train. Soft silicone implants are placed to build a natural, athletic contour that resistance training alone cannot create.

Who calf implants are for

The procedure suits patients with genetically thin calves, a visible asymmetry between the two legs, or muscle loss from injury or a medical condition. It is also chosen by athletes who cannot develop the calf to match the rest of the leg. A consultation confirms implant size and placement for a proportionate result.

The procedure

Through a short incision hidden in the crease behind the knee, one or two soft silicone implants are placed above the calf muscle on each leg and shaped for symmetry. The operation takes about 1 to 1.5 hours under general or spinal anaesthesia, with one overnight stay for observation.

Honest expectations

Calf surgery has a demanding early recovery: the legs are tight and walking is deliberately limited for the first week or two to let the implants settle. Most patients walk normally by two weeks and return to full activity by six.
