ENT surgeon focused on rhinoplasty and nasal surgery

Op. Dr. Ulaş Metin is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon in Istanbul. He works at BHT Clinic İstanbul Tema Hospital in Atakent, Küçükçekmece, on the European side of the city. He is a partner surgeon of Estetica Istanbul, and he is the surgeon our patients are matched with for primary rhinoplasty, the operation that reshapes the nose.

A nose has two jobs: how it looks and how it breathes. ENT surgeons train on the inside of the nose first, including the septum, the turbinates and the nasal valves that control airflow, and nasal surgery is a core part of their specialty. On his own website Dr. Metin names nasal aesthetics and nasal diseases among his main areas of interest, together with facial aesthetic surgery and head and neck tumours.

Dr. Metin has 9+ years in medicine. He qualified as a doctor in 2017 and has been an ENT specialist since 2023.

Training

Dr. Metin was born in Munich, Germany, in 1992 and finished secondary school at İzmir Atatürk High School in 2010. He graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in İzmir in 2017.

After graduating he completed his compulsory public service at Bornova Türkan Özilhan State Hospital in İzmir. In 2018 he began specialist training in otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) at Pamukkale University in Denizli. He completed it in 2023 and received the title Op. Dr., which in Turkey means a doctor who has completed surgical specialist training.

During and after his residency he attended the Structure and Preservation Rhinoplasty Conference (2022) and a temporal bone dissection course (2022). He has also attended the 6th All in One Rhinoplasty Congress and the national congress of the Turkish Facial Plastic Surgery Society.

Board certification and memberships

Dr. Metin states on his own website that he is a member of three professional societies:

Clinical career

After his compulsory service in İzmir, Dr. Metin trained and worked in the ENT department of Pamukkale University Hospital. He has also worked at Hakkari Şemdinli State Hospital. He now practises at BHT Clinic İstanbul Tema Hospital in Küçükçekmece.

His published research comes from his university training years. PubMed lists three peer-reviewed papers with him as an author:

• a 2021 study in Northern Clinics of Istanbul on telling malignant from benign causes of persistent swollen lymph nodes in the neck, where he is first author
• a 2023 study in Acta Oto-Laryngologica on a balance test that uses a 3D virtual reality headset
• a 2024 study in the Journal of International Advanced Otology comparing three grading systems for facial nerve paralysis

His website also lists a 2022 paper in the Turkish journal KBB-Forum on COVID-19 and facial paralysis. It also lists six talks at national congresses between 2019 and 2022, including one on how sinus CT scans affect planning for septoplasty and septorhinoplasty.

Besides rhinoplasty, his directory profiles list endoscopic sinus surgery, septoplasty, tonsil and adenoid surgery, snoring and sleep apnoea surgery, eyelid surgery, ear pinning (otoplasty), and face and neck lifting. They also list fillers and botulinum toxin.

What he does for Estetica Istanbul patients

For Estetica Istanbul, Dr. Metin is the surgeon for primary rhinoplasty, meaning a first operation on a nose that has not had surgery before. The aim is a nose that suits your face and still lets you breathe freely. As an ENT surgeon he looks at the inside of the nose as well as the outside, so a deviated septum or a narrow airway can be assessed during the same consultation.
