What voice feminization surgery involves

Hormones do not change a voice that has already gone through male puberty. Voice feminisation surgery does, by shortening the vibrating length of the vocal folds. The technique used by our team is the Wendler glottoplasty: through the mouth, with no external incision, the front third of the two vocal folds is de-epithelialised and sutured together, creating a web that raises the fundamental frequency by roughly 60–80 Hz on average. Some teams add laser reduction of the fold mass to refine the result.

The operation takes one to two hours under general anaesthesia with one night in hospital. It is followed by two weeks of strict voice rest — no speaking, no whispering — which decides the result as much as the surgery does. Voice therapy before and after surgery is strongly recommended and we can connect you with a therapist who works remotely in your language.

Who is eligible

You must be 18 or older, a non-smoker for at least four weeks, and free of active reflux or laryngeal disease — the team performs a videolaryngoscopy before confirming surgery. WPATH SOC8 asks for one mental-health letter; there is no hormone prerequisite. Voice surgery is not for professional singers without a specialist discussion first.

Recovery and follow-up

Seven nights in Istanbul: one in hospital, the rest in the recovery hotel, with a laryngoscopy check before you fly. Complete voice rest for fourteen days, then gradual return with therapy exercises. Your voice sounds hoarse and low for the first four to six weeks — this is normal — and settles into its new range over three to six months. A second laryngoscopy is done remotely or locally at three months.

Cost of voice feminization surgery in Turkey

The published price covers Wendler glottoplasty with videolaryngoscopy, one hospital night, recovery hotel, transfers and coordination. Laser-assisted refinement and a tracheal shave in the same session are quoted separately. Flights are never included. You receive a written, itemised quote before paying a deposit.
