A facelift — rhytidectomy, in clinical language — repositions the deep tissues of the midface and neck that descend with time, and removes the excess skin that follows. It is the most effective operation for restoring a rested, ten-to-fifteen-years-younger appearance to the face, with a result that must look natural — never pulled, never "done".

Modern facelift surgery does not tighten the skin: it repositions the deep structural layer (the SMAS and the plane beneath it). Pulling skin alone is what produced the taut, unnatural faces of the 1980s and 1990s magazines — and it is exactly what the informed patient does not want. Bringing the deep plane back into position restores volume to the cheeks and definition to the jawline without surface tension. The result is that you look rested, not redone.

Who facelift is suitable for

The ideal candidate presents a jawline that has lost definition (jowls), loose neck skin, loss of cheek volume, and midface descent. The patients our partner surgeons operate on are typically between 45 and 68, in good health, non-smokers at the time of surgery, with realistic expectations about what surgery can and cannot change.

The most common indications are jawline descent with loss of oval definition, loose skin and visible platysmal banding in the neck, flattening of the midface and deepening of the nasolabial folds, and the realistic expectation of looking rested, not becoming a different person.

A facelift does not improve the surface quality of the skin — tone, pigmentation, sun damage — and for that you need lasers or chemical peels, which we can plan alongside. It does not change bone structure. It restores position and proportion, nothing more and nothing less.

There is no single operation called "a facelift". There is a ladder, from a short-scar lift that takes an hour to a combined package that rebuilds the brow, eyelids, midface and neck in one anaesthetic. Mini facelift, short-scar lift — from €3,750

Shorter incisions, reduced dissection, faster recovery — the operation addresses the jawline and lower face only. A good choice in the mid-40s with early laxity and a neck still in order. It does not replace a full facelift when the neck is involved: in that case we say honestly that a mini is not enough for you. This is the entry price of the page and the most frequently performed lift in our partner theatres.

Eyebrow, cheek and chin-arch lift — €4,420

A three-zone lift of the upper and middle face: brow position, cheek support and the chin arch, without touching the neck. It suits the face that has fallen in the middle third while the jawline still holds — typically late 40s to mid 50s. Performed by Akın İnalöz, Barış Kanık, Tiber Menteşe, Narmin Mammadova or Mustafa Ekrem Güleş depending on availability and on who best fits your anatomy.

Midi facelift with neck lift — €4,420

The midi lift works the lower two-thirds and is combined in the same anaesthetic with the neck. This is the most common combination we book for patients over 50, because the neck almost always shows age before the face does. Same price point as the three-zone lift above, different anatomy addressed — the choice between them is clinical, not commercial.

Full face and neck lift — €5,060 to €6,120

The complete operation: face and neck in one session, deep structural repositioning, six nights. The price varies by surgeon, not by what you get — €5,060 with Tiber Menteşe, €5,220 with Barış Kanık, €5,460 with Mustafa Ekrem Güleş, €5,820 with Ulaş Metin. Each is a board-certified plastic surgeon operating in a hospital holding an international health-tourism authorisation licence. We will tell you which of them has the strongest record for your specific face rather than pushing the cheapest slot.

Endoscopic facelift — €4,650 to €5,620

Performed through small incisions with a camera rather than open dissection, which means less swelling and a faster return to public life, at the cost of less lifting power in advanced descent. €4,650 for the endoscopic mini and €5,620 for the endoscopic eyebrow-cheek-chin lift with Akın İnalöz. Worth asking about if your descent is moderate and your calendar is tight.

Combination packages — €5,690 to €10,060

Tiber Menteşe builds these to order, and they are the reason many patients travel once instead of three times. The ladder runs from €5,690 for midi and mini facelift together, through €6,490 with a temple lift, €7,060 with the neck included, €8,760 with brow, temple and full eyelid lifting added, up to €10,060 for the complete package — brow lift, temple lift, full upper and lower eyelid lifting, midi and mini facelift, neck lift and facial fat injection in a single anaesthetic, eight nights. One recovery, one flight, one scar-maturation period.

Revision facelift — €8,920

A second operation on a face already lifted elsewhere — scar release, repositioning of tissue that was pulled instead of restructured, correction of an over-tightened or asymmetric result. Ulaş Metin takes these. It costs more than a primary facelift because it takes longer and carries more risk, and we will look at your operative report before quoting anything. If the result you dislike is only six months old, we will usually tell you to wait.

Neck lift alone — from €3,620, temporal lift — €3,650

Both exist as standalone operations for patients who need one zone and not the whole face. The neck lift addresses platysmal banding, submental fat and loose skin, and can add liposuction of the neck. The temporal lift raises the outer brow and the tail of the eye through the hairline, opening the upper third of the face; it is the least invasive step on this ladder and the one most often added to something else.

Deep-plane and SMAS — technique, not a separate product

Deep-plane and SMAS describe how far beneath the skin the surgeon works, not a different operation to buy. The deep plane, beneath the SMAS, is released and repositioned as a unit, which recovers midface volume and redefines the jawline durably and naturally; a SMAS lift is a more conservative dissection on the same structural layer, right for moderate laxity and a shorter recovery. Modern facelift surgery does not tighten skin — pulling skin alone is exactly what produces the swept, operated look people are afraid of. Whichever of the operations above you have, your surgeon works on that structural layer; the technique is included in the price, not an upgrade sold on top.

The surgery, step by step

The facelift is performed under general anaesthesia in a JCI-accredited hospital, with a dedicated anaesthesiologist present throughout. Duration is three to five hours depending on extent. One overnight stay in hospital is standard.

Incisions are placed inside the hairline, around the ear and behind the auricle — concealed once healed, even if you wear your hair up. The deep structural layer is released, repositioned and fixed with permanent sutures. Excess skin is trimmed without tension — no "pulled" effect, which is the visible signature of a badly done facelift. Small drains are placed for the first 24–48 hours.

Recovery

Weeks 1–2

Significant swelling and bruising peak on days three to four, then resolve progressively. Light compression garment for most of the day in the first week. You sleep with the head elevated. Soreness is moderate — less than most patients expect.

Weeks 2–3

Most patients feel presentable in public by week two, with makeup covering residual bruising. Sutures around the ear are removed between day seven and ten. Many patients return to professional environments in week three — a meeting with good makeup and hair covering the ears, and nobody notices.

Weeks 3–6

Swelling continues to resolve. Sensation returns gradually to normal. Scars are still pink and in maturation.

Months 3–12

Scars mature to fine white lines. The definitive result is visible around month six and continues to refine over the first year.

Risks and realistic expectations

Honest risks: haematoma (the most frequent early complication, requiring prompt management), temporary weakness of the facial mimic nerves, alterations in ear and cheek sensation, and rarely asymmetry or modification of the hairline. Results typically last ten to fifteen years; the face continues to age naturally after surgery.

A facelift does not stop time. It moves it backwards. What you buy is a good decade where you look better than you otherwise would.
