What lipedema surgery involves

Lipedema is a chronic disorder of fat distribution, almost exclusively in women, in which disproportionate, painful fat accumulates on the legs and often the arms, resists diet and exercise, and bruises easily. It is not obesity and it does not respond to weight loss. Conservative treatment — compression, manual lymphatic drainage — manages symptoms; surgery is the only treatment that removes the diseased tissue.

The operation is lymph-sparing liposuction: water-jet (WAL) or power-assisted (PAL) liposuction with fine cannulas in the direction of the lymph vessels, under tumescent local or general anaesthesia, removing three to six litres of lipedema fat per session. Because of the volume involved, treatment is staged: typically outer thighs and knees first, inner thighs and lower legs second, arms third, with eight to twelve weeks between sessions. Most patients report a marked drop in pain and heaviness within weeks of the first stage.

Who is eligible

A diagnosis of lipedema from a phlebologist, lymphologist or dermatologist, stable weight, and a BMI the surgical team is comfortable operating on (usually under 35; higher with a plan). Bring your diagnosis letter, any lymph-scintigraphy or ultrasound, and your compression prescription. Patients with active lymphoedema or venous disease are assessed first. Smoking stops four weeks before surgery.

In Germany, the Netherlands and the UK, insurers cover lipedema surgery only in narrow cases and private clinics charge €8,000–15,000 per stage with months of waiting. Our board-certified plastic surgeons perform high-volume VASER and WAL liposuction in a JCI-accredited private hospital, and the same lymph-sparing technique costs a third of the price with a date within weeks. Compression garments are fitted before you fly home and your coordinator speaks German, Dutch or English.

You deal with one coordinator, one hospital and one medical team from the first message to the last follow-up. Every price is itemised in writing before you pay a deposit, and the written quote does not change unless you change the plan. Flights are never included.

Recovery and follow-up

One night in hospital, then the recovery hotel with daily checks; most patients fly home on day six or seven. Compression is worn day and night for four weeks, then daytime for four more. Walking from day one, desk work at one to two weeks, sport at six weeks. Manual lymphatic drainage at home in the first weeks speeds the result. Stages two and three are booked at your pace, usually eight to twelve weeks apart, with the same surgeon and the same coordinator.

Cost of lipedema surgery in Turkey

The published price is per stage and includes one hospital night, recovery hotel, transfers, compression garments and coordination. The number of stages depends on the volume to be removed and is set at consultation, usually one to three. Multi-stage plans are quoted together at a reduced total. Flights are never included.
