ENT surgeon focused on nasal and facial aesthetic surgery

Op. Dr. Gökhan Mersinlioğlu is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) and head and neck surgeon in Istanbul. His own website gives his clinic address on Bağdat Avenue in Caddebostan, Kadıköy, on the Asian side of the city. A doctor directory lists him at Özel Megapol Hospital in Kartal. He is a partner surgeon of Estetica Istanbul, and his area for our patients is rhinoplasty, the operation that reshapes the nose.

A nose has two jobs: how it looks and how it breathes. ENT surgeons train on the inside of the nose first, including the septum, the turbinates and the nasal valves that control airflow, and nasal surgery is a core part of their specialty. Dr. Mersinlioğlu says on his website that his work concentrates on nasal and facial aesthetic surgery, alongside general ENT diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Mersinlioğlu has 12+ years in medicine. He qualified as a doctor in 2011.

Training

Dr. Mersinlioğlu was born in İnebolu in 1987. He studied medicine at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine from 2005 to 2011 and qualified as a doctor.

He completed his specialist training in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery at Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul, which is now called Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşçıoğlu City Hospital. This is a large public teaching hospital. ENT residents there treat the full range of ear, nose, throat, and head and neck conditions, from sinus disease to tumours. After his training he holds the title Op. Dr., which in Turkey means a doctor who has completed surgical specialist training.

Clinical career

As an ENT and head and neck specialist, Dr. Mersinlioğlu first worked at Kütahya Simav State Hospital and then at Tekirdağ Çorlu State Hospital. His website says that during these years he performed ENT, head and neck, and nasal and facial aesthetic and reconstructive operations. Since 2019 he has worked in private practice in Istanbul.

PubMed lists three peer-reviewed papers on which he is a co-author:

• a 2017 study in the Journal of Voice on how radioactive iodine treatment affects voice quality, written with colleagues from the Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital ENT clinic
• a 2017 study in Logopedics Phoniatrics Vocology on voice evaluation in patients with Sjögren's syndrome, from the same clinic
• a 2025 study in Cranio on how enlarged adenoids and adenoid removal affect bite force in children, where his affiliation is a private ENT clinic

His directory profile lists rhinoplasty, septoplasty, nasal valve surgery, septal perforation repair, sinus surgery, ear pinning (otoplasty), eyelid surgery and medical aesthetic treatments among his services. His website also covers revision rhinoplasty, tipplasty (surgery on the tip of the nose only), endoscopic sinus surgery, tonsil and adenoid surgery, brow lift, fox eye surgery and buccal fat removal.

What he does for Estetica Istanbul patients

For Estetica Istanbul patients, Dr. Mersinlioğlu's area is nose surgery. That includes rhinoplasty to change the shape of the nose, and work on the inside of the nose when breathing is also a problem. A deviated septum, for example, can often be corrected in the same operation as the cosmetic change. As an ENT surgeon he looks at the airway as well as the profile, so both are assessed when your plan is made.

On his website he notes that cosmetic nose surgery should wait until a patient has finished growing, at around 18 years of age. Surgery done only to fix breathing can sometimes be done earlier. He also advises patients to avoid medicines that increase bleeding for two weeks before surgery, and to take only what the surgeon approves.

Before your trip, your coordinator collects photos of your nose from several angles and your medical history so that the surgeon can review them. In Istanbul he examines you in person before the operation, goes through the plan with you and answers your questions. Nothing is final until you and he agree on it.
