Mustafa Ekrem Güleş

Plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon

Op. Dr. Mustafa Ekrem Güleş is a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery based in Kadıköy, Istanbul, and a partner surgeon of Estetica Istanbul. His work with our international patients centres on body contouring: liposuction, Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and fat transfer. Training

Dr. Güleş was born in Konya in 1989 and studied medicine at the Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine. After qualifying as a doctor he completed his specialist training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Bezmialem Vakıf University Hospital in Istanbul, under Prof. Ethem Güneren. His specialty thesis, an experimental study on the effect of botulinum toxin on muscle volume, is filed in the university's repository of medical specialty theses in 2018, the year he qualified as a specialist.

During his residency, in 2016, he spent about three months in advanced microsurgery training at Chang Gung University in Taiwan, one of the best-known microsurgery centres in the world. Microsurgery, the joining of blood vessels and nerves under the microscope, is the most technically demanding part of reconstructive training.

Residency in plastic surgery in Turkey is a full surgical specialisation of about five years, ending in a specialist examination and thesis. It covers reconstructive surgery after trauma, burns and tumour removal as well as aesthetic surgery. That reconstructive grounding is what teaches a surgeon how skin, fat and blood supply behave, which matters directly in body contouring and fat transfer.

Clinical career

From 2018 to 2021 Dr. Güleş worked as a plastic surgeon at Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital, a public teaching hospital. He now runs his own aesthetic surgery clinic in Caddebostan, Kadıköy, on Istanbul's Asian side, and operates in accredited partner hospitals.

Research

He is a co-author of “Tackling Abdominal Wall Contour Deformities in Patients with Complex Ventral Hernias in Plastic Surgeon's Perspective”, published in the Indian Journal of Surgery (2020; 82(6): 1141–1146), written while he was at Sakarya Training and Research Hospital. The paper deals with restoring the shape of the abdominal wall after complex hernia surgery, close to the anatomy of tummy tuck and body contouring.

Professional memberships

According to his own clinic website, Dr. Güleş is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Association and the Reconstructive Microsurgery Association.
