What bariatric revision surgery involves

Around one in five bariatric patients eventually needs a second operation: weight regain after a sleeve as the stomach stretches, severe reflux after a sleeve, a slipped or eroded gastric band, or insufficient weight loss after any procedure. Revision converts the original operation into one that works for the problem you have now. Sleeve to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is the standard answer for reflux and regain; re-sleeve for a dilated sleeve without reflux; band removal with conversion to sleeve or bypass; and SADI-S (single-anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass) for patients who need the most powerful metabolic effect.

Revision is technically harder than a first operation because of scar tissue, which is why it should be done by a surgeon who does it often. All procedures are laparoscopic, two to three hours, with two to three nights in hospital.

Who is eligible

Patients with a documented previous bariatric procedure and a clear indication — regain to a BMI above 35, reflux not controlled by medication, or a band complication. Bring your original operative report, a recent endoscopy if you have one, and your current medication list. The bariatric team reviews these before confirming the plan and the price; an endoscopy and contrast study are done on arrival.

Why Istanbul, and why through us

Public systems in the UK and Germany rarely fund revision, and private revision costs £12,000–18,000. Our bariatric surgeons perform primary and revisional surgery every week in a JCI-accredited hospital with a dedicated bariatric unit and intensive care, at a third of the private price and with a date within weeks. Dietitian follow-up continues remotely after you fly home.

You deal with one coordinator, one hospital and one medical team from the first message to the last follow-up. Every price is itemised in writing before you pay a deposit, and the written quote does not change unless you change the plan. Flights are never included.

Recovery and follow-up

Two to three nights in hospital with a leak test before discharge, then the recovery hotel; most patients fly home on day six or seven. Liquid diet for two weeks, puree for two, then soft food. Desk work at two weeks. The dietitian and the surgical team follow you remotely at one, three, six and twelve months; blood tests are done at home and reviewed by the team.

Cost of bariatric revision in Turkey

The published price is the starting point for sleeve-to-bypass or re-sleeve, including endoscopy, hospital nights, recovery hotel, transfers and dietitian follow-up. Band removal with conversion and SADI-S are quoted after the team has reviewed your reports. Flights are never included.

HOW IT WORKS

Your Journey. Our Hands.

From your first message to your flight home — we run the logistics. You focus on the result you came for.

Step 1

Free Consultation

Send us photos and your goals on WhatsApp. We review them with the surgeon and send a detailed, all-inclusive quote within 24 hours. No deposit to talk.

Step 2

We Handle the Logistics

Once you decide, we book your flights, hotel and VIP transfers. Pre-op tests, hospital admission, English-speaking support — all arranged before you land.

Step 3

Surgery at the JCI-Accredited Hospital

Your operation takes place inside a fully accredited hospital — dedicated anaesthesia and nursing teams, intensive care on the same floor, international safety standards. Never a back-street day-clinic.

Step 4

Specialist Clinics for Smile & Hair

Non-surgical treatments happen at purpose-built venues — our dedicated dental clinic for veneers, crowns and implants, and our hair restoration clinic for transplants. Each run by teams who do only that, every day.

Step 5

Recovery, Follow-Up & Your Smile

You recover in a hotel with on-site medical care, then fly home. We follow up remotely for a full year — and if a complication arises, we cover remote consultations with your surgeon and, in rare cases, revision surgery — with the Antwell upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which revision do I need?
It depends on the problem: reflux or regain after a sleeve is usually converted to a bypass; a dilated sleeve without reflux can be re-sleeved; a failed band is removed and converted. The bariatric team decides from your operative report and endoscopy.
Is revision riskier than the first surgery?
Somewhat, because of scar tissue — which is why it should be done by a high-volume revisional surgeon in a hospital with intensive care, not a day clinic.
How much weight will I lose?
Typically 60–70% of excess weight after sleeve-to-bypass, similar to a well-functioning primary procedure, provided diet and follow-up are respected.
Do you need my original surgery records?
Yes. The operative report is essential to plan the revision; if you cannot obtain it, the endoscopy and contrast study on arrival will map the anatomy.
