Chin Implant

A chin implant (mentoplasty) adds projection and definition to a weak or recessed chin, rebalancing the profile so the nose, lips and jaw sit in proportion. It is a short, precise operation with an outsized effect on how balanced a face looks — often the missing piece patients have been trying to fix with fillers.

Who a chin implant is for

The right candidate has a chin that sits behind the ideal profile line, a soft or undefined jaw-to-neck angle, or a face that photographs top-heavy. It also suits patients who have had rhinoplasty and now notice the chin no longer matches the new nose. A short consultation with photos and measurements confirms whether an implant, or a sliding genioplasty, is the better route.

The procedure

The implant — a soft, solid silicone piece sized to your anatomy — is placed through a small incision hidden inside the lower lip or under the chin, seated on the bone and secured. The operation takes 45 to 60 minutes under sedation or light general anaesthesia. Most patients go home the same day and fly back after a short review.

Honest expectations

Swelling and a tight, numb sensation are normal for the first two weeks; the final contour settles by six to eight weeks. A well-sized implant is stable for decades, but it is a permanent device — the honest trade-off is a foreign body placed for a purely aesthetic gain, which we discuss openly before you commit.

Decide what you mean by a stronger chin

A stronger chin can mean more forward projection, a wider appearance from the front, better balance with the nose or a different relationship between the lower lip and the neck. Explain the particular change you want rather than using a celebrity photograph as a complete specification.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons' chin-surgery overview distinguishes implant augmentation from procedures that change the chin bone. That difference should be part of your assessment: you are choosing a way to address an anatomical concern, not simply purchasing the most permanent option.

Provide front and side photographs with your lips relaxed and your head in a neutral position. Filters, wide-angle close-ups and an exaggerated jaw pose make it harder to communicate the original concern. If your bite feels unusual, or you have ongoing orthodontic treatment, say so at the beginning.

Ask how the implant is selected

Ask the surgeon what determines the proposed implant's shape, size and position. Request an explanation of the change from the front as well as the side. A choice made only to improve the profile may leave other questions unanswered, particularly if you are concerned about width or asymmetry.

The brand and device model should be named in your final plan when available. Ask what documentation you receive afterwards, including the operative summary and implant identification. Do not assume the phrase “medical grade” identifies the manufacturer or proves a specific regulatory status.

Ask whether the proposal uses an incision inside the mouth or beneath the chin and why that route is recommended. The explanation should include the trade-offs and the care instructions appropriate to that route. Do not choose an incision solely because an advertisement calls it scarless.

Consider the alternatives without treating them as equivalents

An implant, a bone procedure and injectable treatment involve different decisions. Ask what each could reasonably change in your case, what it would leave unchanged and what further treatment might be needed later.

If you already have filler, bring its name and approximate treatment dates if known. Ask whether the surgeon needs records or an additional assessment before deciding on surgery. Do not arrange filler removal or stop a treatment based only on a general page.

It is also reasonable to decide against an operation. If the requested improvement is small but the commitment feels large, ask for time to consider the recommendation. A consultation should make the trade-off easier to understand, rather than make you feel that booking immediately is the only serious choice.

Understand the long-term commitment

A chin implant is a device you may continue living with after the initial recovery has ended. Ask about follow-up, what information should be retained and how a future clinician could identify the device. Store the implant details with your medical records rather than relying on remembering a brand name years later.

Discuss what happens if you dislike the appearance, develop a problem or want another procedure in the future. An ability to remove or exchange an implant does not mean that another operation is minor, free or guaranteed to restore the original appearance. Request the written commercial terms separately.

Do not accept a fixed lifespan or a promise that the device can never move, become infected or require attention. Ask for a balanced explanation of recognised risks and the circumstances in which an examination would be needed.

Prepare a quote and travel plan that match the operation

The current chin-implant floor is from €4,020 all-inclusive, flights excluded, as of October 2026. The published package includes six hotel nights. Confirm which device, clinical fees, anaesthesia, transfers and postoperative items are included in your own quote.

Extra Deniz nights cost €70 each and the Antwell upgrade adds €40 per night. Flights, travel insurance and companion expenses require separate planning. Revision or device exchange is not automatically included in the price of the original operation; any promise about future treatment needs written terms.

Ask about eating, dental care, shaving, work and travel in the context of the chosen incision and your normal routine. Six hotel nights are an accommodation allowance, not evidence that every patient is ready to fly on the same day. Allow room in your travel plans for an extra review if recommended.

FAQ for the decision stage

Can a chin implant correct a bite problem?

Do not assume an appearance procedure is a treatment for jaw alignment. Describe any dental or bite concerns so the clinician can decide whether a different assessment is needed.

Can I choose an implant size myself?

You can explain your goals, but the proposed device should be chosen and explained by the clinician assessing your anatomy. Ask to understand the recommendation before consenting.

Is implant removal part of the package?

Do not assume so. Ask for the written revision and removal policy, including costs and who would provide care if an issue occurs after returning home.
