Choose a body lift surgeon in Istanbul on seven checks, in this order: the facility licence, a named plastic surgeon, a review of your weight stability, a written staging plan, clot prevention, a named hospital with overnight care, and a written quote for each stage. Price comes last. Through Estetica Istanbul's partner surgeons a body lift starts from €4,720 all-inclusive, flights excluded; in Rome, the Bookimed price page lists Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy at €11,100 to €21,900. A gap that wide makes most buyers decide on price alone, which is the mistake this checklist exists to prevent.
Estetica Istanbul is an agency, not a clinic. The surgeons and hospitals are partners, and every surgical decision is theirs. That is also why the checks below are written for you to run on anyone, including us. A body lift after a gastric sleeve, a bypass or a large diet-led weight loss is a long operation under general anaesthesia on a body that has just been through major change. Longer operations and recent nutritional change are the reasons the team you choose carries more weight than the price.
1. Check the licence before you check the surgeon
Türkiye requires every healthcare facility and every intermediary that serves international patients to hold the International Health Tourism Authorization Certificate, according to the HealthTürkiye platform run under the Ministry of Health. Ask the hospital and the agency for their certificates before you send photos, let alone a deposit. A provider that cannot show one has answered the question for you, whatever its price or its Instagram following.

2. Get the operating surgeon's name and specialty in writing
A body lift is the work of a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Ask for the full name of the surgeon who will operate, not the clinic's medical director or a brand name, and check the specialist title yourself. Membership of the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons or of ISAPS is easy to look up. Then ask how many post-bariatric body lifts the surgeon performs in a typical month: the answer should be a number, not an adjective. If the name is only revealed on the day of surgery, walk away.
3. A good surgeon asks about your weight before your photos
The timing rules are published. A 2023 review in the Journal of Clinical Medicine (Pantelis et al.) summarises the guidelines as 12 to 18 months after bariatric surgery with a weight that has been stable for at least 6 to 12 months. Stony Brook Medicine in New York sets a stricter minimum of 12 months of stable weight, and the BAPRAS criteria cited by NHS Cheshire and Merseyside expect a BMI under 30 held for 12 months. Our guide to when body contouring after weight loss is safe explains how surgeons apply these numbers.
Expect questions about nutrition and nicotine too. Stony Brook requires a nutritional assessment with any deficiencies corrected before surgery, and no nicotine for at least six weeks before and six weeks after an elective procedure. A surgeon who books a date without asking for your monthly weight log and a recent blood test is pricing your case, not assessing it.
4. Ask for the staging plan in writing
Few patients have every area corrected in one operation. Stony Brook describes three to six months between stages, and in the Greek hospital series reported by Pantelis et al., 18 of 24 patients had one body-contouring session, 4 had two and 2 had three. Ask the surgeon which area comes first and why, which areas can be combined safely, and what the second trip will involve. The article on which body lift to have first sets out the usual sequences. Be wary of anyone who offers to do the abdomen, arms and thighs in one session simply because it fits one flight.
5. Ask exactly how they prevent blood clots
A body lift is a long operation that keeps you still on the table and in bed afterwards, so clot prevention is a fair test of a team's standards. Ask four things: how they score your clot risk before surgery (the Caprini score is a common tool), whether compression or pneumatic leg devices are used during the operation, whether blood-thinning injections are prescribed afterwards and for how long, and when you will be walking. The flight home is part of the same plan, so read how long to wait before flying after a body lift before you buy a return fare.
6. Name the hospital and count the nights
A body lift is done under general anaesthesia in a hospital, not in an office clinic. Ask for the hospital's name, how many nights you will spend there and how many in the hotel, whether there is an intensive care unit on site, and who examines you if something changes at night. Get the split in writing with dates. Estetica packages include hotel nights at the Deniz; extra nights cost €70 at the Deniz or €110 at the Antwell, and the Ibis Zeytinburnu is the third hotel on the list.
7. Compare quotes stage by stage, not headline to headline
Ask every provider for one written quote per stage that names the surgeon and the hospital and says whether anaesthesia, hospital nights, garments and follow-up are inside the price. In Istanbul the live starting prices are a body lift from €4,720, a tummy tuck from €3,690, an arm lift from €3,250 and a thigh lift from €3,320, each as a separate package with flights never included. A two-stage plan of body lift and then arms therefore starts from €7,970. The itemised body lift package in Istanbul lists what each package contains.
Istanbul vs Milano and Roma: what the price difference buys
Italian prices sit well above Istanbul. On the Bookimed price page for Italy, Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy in Rome is listed at €11,100 to €21,900 for a body lift, so the gap to €4,720 is at least €6,380. For an abdominoplasty, BusinessOnline.it put the Italian average at €5,500 to €7,500 in November 2024, against €3,690 in Istanbul: a gap of €1,810 to €3,810. Our country-by-country skin removal cost comparison adds the UK, the US and Germany.
What Italy gives you for the extra money is proximity. Your surgeon is reachable for every follow-up appointment, a complication in the first weeks is seen by the team that operated, and no flight sits between you and home. Istanbul is about three hours from Milano Malpensa, Bergamo or Roma Fiumicino, which keeps the trip short, but the follow-up from home will be by video call. If you go to Istanbul, run the seven checks with the same rigour you would apply in Milan.
Red flags that should end the conversation
No authorization certificate. A surgeon who stays anonymous until the day of surgery. No questions about your weight history, bloods or smoking. Pressure to combine every area in one session for travel convenience. A return flight booked before the surgeon has cleared you to fly. A price that changes after you land. Words such as painless, risk-free or guaranteed: a body lift is not risk-free, and seroma, wound-healing problems and a long scar are trade-offs to discuss openly.
How the first steps work
The first call is a free video call with an Estetica assistant, who reviews your weight log and photos. After the written offer, a video consultation with the partner surgeon costs €30 and is credited if you book. A €500 deposit secures the date. Cancel at least 14 days before surgery and before your flight is booked and the deposit is refunded; otherwise it becomes a credit valid for 12 months. Use the surgeon call to run checks 2 to 6 out loud.
Frequently Asked Questions
What records should I bring for a body lift after bariatric surgery?
Bring your bariatric team's notes: the date and type of surgery, your weight trend since, and the supplements you were prescribed. Add a monthly weight log on the same scale and a recent blood test. Partner surgeons use these to judge whether your weight is stable and your nutrition is good enough for wound healing. Missing records usually delay the decision rather than speed it up.
Can a body lift be combined with a breast lift or a tummy tuck in one trip?
Sometimes, but only the operating surgeon can decide after examining you. Combining areas lengthens the operation and the recovery, so many surgeons stage the work three to six months apart, as Stony Brook Medicine describes. Ask for a written plan that shows which areas are done in each session, the hospital nights for each, and a separate quote per stage.
Is Estetica Istanbul a clinic, and who is responsible for my surgery?
No. Estetica Istanbul is a medical-tourism agency. Partner plastic surgeons operate in partner hospitals in Istanbul, and every surgical decision, including whether you are ready and which areas to treat, is theirs. The agency arranges the offer, the hotel nights at the Deniz and the coordination. Flights are never included. Ask for the operating surgeon's name and the hospital in writing before you pay the €500 deposit.
Is a body lift after weight loss more expensive than a cosmetic tummy tuck?
Yes. In Istanbul a body lift starts from €4,720 and a tummy tuck from €3,690, both all-inclusive with flights excluded. A body lift removes a full circle of skin around the waist and lifts the flanks, buttocks and outer thighs, so it is a longer operation. Many post-bariatric patients add an arm lift from €3,250 or a thigh lift from €3,320 as a later stage.
What if I still have weight to lose before a body lift?
Wait. Published guidance asks for 12 to 18 months after bariatric surgery and a weight stable for at least 6 to 12 months, and Stony Brook Medicine asks for 12 months of stable weight. Surgery before that risks new loose skin next to fresh scars. A €30 surgeon video call can still help you plan which areas are realistic and when your weight log will qualify.
