Calf Implants

Calf implants add shape and volume to the lower leg for people whose calves stay thin and undefined no matter how much they train. Soft silicone implants are placed to build a natural, athletic contour that resistance training alone cannot create.

Who calf implants are for

The procedure suits patients with genetically thin calves, a visible asymmetry between the two legs, or muscle loss from injury or a medical condition. It is also chosen by athletes who cannot develop the calf to match the rest of the leg. A consultation confirms implant size and placement for a proportionate result.

The procedure

Through a short incision hidden in the crease behind the knee, one or two soft silicone implants are placed above the calf muscle on each leg and shaped for symmetry. The operation takes about 1 to 1.5 hours under general or spinal anaesthesia, with one overnight stay for observation.

Honest expectations

Calf surgery has a demanding early recovery: the legs are tight and walking is deliberately limited for the first week or two to let the implants settle. Most patients walk normally by two weeks and return to full activity by six. It is a niche, specialised operation — we are direct about the recovery so you can plan the trip and time off realistically.

Set goals for each leg, not an ideal photograph

Explain whether your concern is overall size, a difference between the legs or a particular contour. Ask the surgeon how they will assess those goals and whether an implant can address them. If the difference followed an injury or a medical condition, make that history part of the assessment from the beginning.

Bring reference images to describe preferences, but ask what makes your anatomy different. The decision should concern a proportionate plan for you, rather than a promise to reproduce someone else's legs.

Understand the proposed implant plan

Ask whether one or both legs are being treated, how many implants are proposed, and which model and sizes would be used. The calf-implant pricing entry names Polytech; ask which specific product is proposed for you.

Request an explanation of what the implants are intended to change and what they cannot change. Ask about the alternatives, including no treatment, and why the surgeon recommends the proposed option over them. Do not choose an implant solely from a volume number in an advertisement.

Plan the trip around mobility

Tell the surgeon about stairs at home, standing at work, regular exercise and any unavoidable travel. Ask how these affect recovery planning for your case.

Ask about the long-term agreement

Request the implant details and treatment records to keep after the trip. Ask what happens if you later need assessment, whether an issue would require a return visit and what the written agreement covers.

Does an implant provide the same change as muscle training?

Ask the clinician to explain the anatomical change being proposed. Do not treat different methods as interchangeable ways to achieve the same result.

Can asymmetric legs be treated identically?

Ask how the plan addresses the starting difference and what uncertainty remains.

Is the implant price the whole trip cost?

Compare the written surgery package, implant items, accommodation and practical support. Flights and any extra stay need separate budgeting.

Compare implant contour with your functional goals

An implant plan should explain its limits if your concern includes weakness, pain or difficulty walking. Ask whether the assessment needs input beyond cosmetic surgery before selecting a shape or size. An improvement in contour should not be presented as restoration of injured muscle function.

Ask about exercise, no intervention and whether fat transfer is a relevant alternative for your anatomy. These choices involve different goals and trade-offs; do not assume they will produce the same shape. Request an explanation of why a particular option is unsuitable, rather than treating the availability of an implant as the reason to choose it.

Include implant problems in the consent discussion

Ask the written quote to identify whether your proposed bilateral or unilateral plan matches that starting offer. Flights are excluded. Neither five nights nor a hotel booking establishes medical clearance to travel.

Explain the route from your room to meals, bathroom and transfers, including stairs. Ask what assistance you will need and who provides it. Budget for a companion or extra accommodation if recommended; neither is automatically included. Do not interpret reduced activity instructions as permission to remain immobile without asking the surgeon how to balance movement and protection of the operated area.

What records should I keep for future care?

Ask for the implant brand, model, size and traceability details for each leg, the operation summary and written aftercare instructions. Clarify how to obtain a replacement copy. Implant documentation, the manufacturer's terms and an agency's revision policy are separate items; ask what each covers.
