How to Choose a Mommy Makeover Surgeon in Istanbul

Choose the surgeon first and the price second. Before you pay a deposit for a mommy makeover in Istanbul, get four things in writing: the full name of the operating surgeon and their specialist registration in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery; the name of the hospital and its international health-tourism authorisation from the Turkish Ministry of Health; a surgical plan listing every procedure in the combination; and an exclusion list. An Istanbul package with a partner surgeon starts at €5,520, flights excluded. That number is useful for a budget. It says nothing about whether a particular surgeon is right for you.

Why the surgeon matters more in a combined operation

A mommy makeover is not one procedure. It usually combines a tummy tuck with breast surgery, often with liposuction, in a single session. The Estetica procedure page lists an operating time of four to six hours under general anaesthesia and two nights in hospital. Longer operations under general anaesthesia ask more of the surgical and anaesthetic team, so the questions below are about who does each part, where, and what happens if something goes wrong. The full scope of the package is on the mommy makeover procedure page.

The licences to ask for in writing

Start with the surgeon. In Türkiye the title that matters is specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, registered with the Ministry of Health. Membership of the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (TSPRAS) is a useful second check, and European or international credentials such as EBOPRAS certification or ISAPS membership add another. Ask for the registration in writing and confirm it yourself. A gynaecologist, a general surgeon or an unnamed "team" is not the same thing.

Then check the building. Since 2017, Turkish hospitals and clinics that treat foreign patients need an international health-tourism authorisation certificate from the Ministry of Health, issued under the regulation on international health tourism and tourist health. Ask for the facility's name and its authorisation, and make sure the hospital on the certificate is the hospital on your booking. An accreditation such as JCI belongs to one named hospital, not to a brand that coordinates care in several.

Seven questions to ask before you pay

First, who operates, and will that person do the tummy tuck and the breast surgery, or are parts delegated? Second, which hospital, and does it have an intensive-care unit on site? Third, who gives the anaesthetic? Fourth, which procedures are in your plan, and which did the surgeon advise against for your body? Fifth, what is done to lower the risk of blood clots during and after a long operation? Sixth, how many nights in hospital and how many in the hotel? Seventh, who reviews you after you fly home, and what does a revision cost? Write the answers down, and if the surgeon changes after you book, ask all seven again and decide again.

Red flags that should end the conversation

Walk away if nobody will name your surgeon before you pay. Walk away if the price expires within hours, if the only photos you see also appear on other clinics' websites, or if anyone promises a result. Be careful with a plan that adds procedures you did not ask about without a reason tied to your body. And be careful with an operation date set before any surgeon has seen your photos and medical history: a surgeon who has not assessed you cannot have decided what to combine.

Istanbul vs Milan and Rome: what the price buys

On WhatClinic, which lists prices published by clinics, Dr. Thomas Savoia in Milan quotes €7,000 to €13,000 for a mommy makeover and Essential Aesthetics in Rome quotes €5,500 to €8,500. The Istanbul package starts at €5,520: €1,480 below the bottom of the Milan range and €7,480 below its top. Against Rome, Istanbul starts €20 above the €5,500 bottom of the range, and the gap reaches €2,980 at the €8,500 top. Our mommy makeover price comparison with Milan works through the Italian quotes line by line.

The headline numbers measure different things. The Istanbul price is a package: partner surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, hotel nights and airport transfers. Most Italian listings do not say whether the anaesthetist, the hospital stay, garments or follow-up visits are inside the figure, so ask before you compare. Italy's advantage is proximity: every follow-up is in person with the surgeon who operated. The mommy makeover cost comparison by country sets out the other markets the same way.

Plan the stay before you choose the date

The surgeon's final check decides when you fly, not the package. The UK Civil Aviation Authority advises against flying for 10 days after abdominal surgery, and nights beyond those in your package cost €70 each at the Deniz hotel, or €110 a night if you upgrade to the Antwell. From Milan Malpensa, Bergamo or Rome Fiumicino the direct flight to Istanbul takes about three hours. Our guide on flying home after a mommy makeover explains what the surgeon checks before clearing you.

Plan the weeks at home as carefully as the trip. The procedure page puts the return to work at two to three weeks and full recovery at four to six weeks, and lifting a toddler is a real question for most mothers. The week-by-week recovery plan for mothers with young children covers who should help and when.

How Estetica fits into this

Estetica Istanbul is an agency, not a clinic. The surgeons and hospitals are partners, and every medical decision is theirs. Our job is to put the surgeon's name, the hospital, the plan and the exclusions in front of you before you pay. The first step is a free video call with a patient assistant. After the offer, a €30 video consultation with the surgeon is the first paid step, credited against the booking. A €500 deposit holds the date: cancel at least 14 days before surgery and before the flight is booked and it is refunded; otherwise it becomes a 12-month credit.

The decision in one line: pick the named, registered plastic surgeon in an authorised hospital whose written plan you understand, then compare prices. In Istanbul that starts at €5,520, flights excluded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I meet my mommy makeover surgeon before I travel to Istanbul?

Yes, by video. After you receive an offer, a €30 video consultation with the partner surgeon is the first paid step, and the €30 is credited against the booking. Use the call to confirm who operates, which procedures are in your plan and which hospital you will be admitted to. The in-person examination happens in Istanbul before surgery, and the surgeon can still change the plan after it.

Is a gynaecologist or general surgeon qualified to do a mommy makeover?

For a combined tummy tuck and breast operation, look for a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery registered with the Turkish Ministry of Health. Other specialists may perform some procedures, but the title tells you the training covers both the abdomen and the breast. Ask for the registration in writing, and treat an unnamed team as a reason to keep looking.

What does the €5,520 mommy makeover package in Istanbul include?

It covers the partner surgeon, the hospital, general anaesthesia, two hospital nights, hotel nights, VIP airport transfers and a translator. Flights are never included. Extra hotel nights cost €70 each at the Deniz, or €110 a night if you upgrade to the Antwell. The final price depends on which procedures the surgeon puts in your plan, so ask for the itemised quote in writing.

Who treats complications after I fly home from Istanbul?

Ask this before you book, not after. Get in writing who reviews your photos and messages once you are home, how your operative notes reach a local doctor, and what the revision and complication policy covers and costs. A messaging channel cannot replace a physical examination: for anything urgent, such as fever, a swollen calf or shortness of breath, go to your local emergency department first.

What happens if the surgeon changes after I pay the deposit?

Ask for the new surgeon's full name, specialist registration and an explanation of the plan, then decide again; it is a medical change, not paperwork. The €500 deposit is refunded if you cancel at least 14 days before surgery and before the flight is booked. Otherwise it becomes a credit valid for 12 months.
