Limb Lengthening Cost 2026: €40,100 per Stage in Istanbul vs the UK, US, Germany and Italy

Cosmetic limb lengthening in Istanbul costs €40,100 per stage through Estetica Istanbul. One stage lengthens both femurs or both tibias, typically by 5 to 8 cm, the range Euronews reported from a US limb lengthening company. Published prices elsewhere are higher: more than £50,000 (about €57,000) privately in the UK, €60,000 to €160,000 in Germany and $70,000 to $150,000 in the US. Il Post reports Italian cosmetic prices similar to the US range of $150,000 to $200,000. Two things are not in the €40,100: the roughly three months you stay in Türkiye for each stage, which is quoted separately, and your flights.

What one stage costs in Istanbul

The €40,100 price covers one stage of surgery by a partner orthopaedic team at a full-service hospital in Istanbul. A stage means both thighs (femurs) or both shins (tibias), never one leg alone, because both sides must be lengthened together to keep them equal. Patients who want femurs and tibias done in two separate stages pay €40,100 twice, which is €80,200 before the stays and flights.

The stay is the cost most people underestimate. Each stage means about three months in Türkiye while the bone is lengthened and checked, and that stay is not in the package price. The coordinator quotes it separately once the partner team has assessed you, so you see the full figure in writing before you pay the €500 deposit.

Limb lengthening cost by country in 2026

United Kingdom: Euronews reported in September 2025 that private treatment in the UK can cost more than £50,000 (€57,000), with some surgeons charging up to £240,000. Professor Tim Briggs of NHS England told Euronews the operation can help when there is a genuine clinical need, and that cosmetic patients should think very carefully about the long recovery and the risks.

Germany: the Stuttgarter Zeitung puts the price of cosmetic leg lengthening in Germany at €60,000 to €160,000.

United States: Business Insider reported that the LimbplastX Institute in Las Vegas charges between $70,000 and $150,000 for the procedure. Italy's Il Post, writing in October 2025, gave a higher US range of $150,000 to $200,000, so US quotes vary widely.

Türkiye: press reports give lower Turkish figures than €40,100. Euronews cited €28,000, the Stuttgarter Zeitung €30,000 to €40,000, and Il Post a base price of about €22,000 rising to about €45,000 for the more advanced, less invasive devices. Before you compare a cheaper quote, ask which device it uses, whether it covers both legs, and what happens if a complication needs a second operation.

Istanbul vs Italy: what you actually pay

Il Post reported in October 2025 that prices for cosmetic procedures in Europe, Italy included, are similar to the US range of $150,000 to $200,000. It also noted that the Servizio Sanitario Nazionale covers the operation only when it is medically necessary, so an Italian patient who wants it for height pays privately.

For a patient from Milano or Roma the comparison is €40,100 per stage in Istanbul plus a separately quoted three-month stay, against a private Italian price that Il Post reports is similar to the US range of $150,000 to $200,000. The flight is short: Milano and Roma reach Istanbul in about three hours, so a family visit during the stay is realistic.

What the price does not buy: the risks

Limb lengthening is an orthopaedic operation on healthy bone, not a cosmetic touch-up. Euronews reported a study in the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research in which 30 to 45 per cent of 760 patients had complications, including infections. Professor Tim Briggs of NHS England warned of the possibility of infection, nerve damage, blood clots and even permanent disability. Long periods of reduced mobility also raise clot risk, so read our guide to blood clots and flying after surgery before you book the flight home.

Experienced teams can reduce the odds, but the procedure is never risk-free. Ask the partner team how they monitor nerve function during lengthening and how often they see you during the three months.

What to check before you compare quotes

A lower price is only comparable if the scope is the same. Ask every provider four things in writing: which bones are lengthened in the stage, which device is used, how many follow-up visits and physiotherapy sessions the quote covers during the stay, and who pays if a complication needs another operation. In Türkiye, also check that the hospital holds the Ministry of Health international health-tourism authorisation, the licence that allows it to treat patients from abroad.

Insurance and complications after you fly home

Standard travel insurance usually excludes elective surgery abroad. Read our medical tourism insurance guide before you book, and check whether a specialist complications policy covers an orthopaedic procedure lasting several months.

If a problem appears after you return, your home doctor needs the operation notes, the implant details and the imaging. Our article on complications after surgery abroad explains what to do once you are home and who treats you.

How to book and what you pay first

The first step is a free video call with the Estetica Istanbul assistant. After you receive the offer, a €30 video call with the partner surgeon is the first paid step, and it is credited if you book. A €500 deposit secures the date. If you cancel at least 14 days before surgery and before the flight is booked, the deposit is refunded; otherwise it becomes a 12-month credit.

Full details of the stage price, height gain and the separately quoted stay are on the limb lengthening surgery in Turkey page. Bring your questions about devices, physiotherapy and the second stage to the surgeon call, and ask for the stay quote in writing before you pay the deposit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is limb lengthening covered by the Italian national health service?

Only when it is medically necessary. Il Post reported in October 2025 that the Servizio Sanitario Nazionale covers the operation only when it is recognised as necessary, so lengthening for height alone is paid privately. In Istanbul one stage costs €40,100 through Estetica Istanbul, with the roughly three-month stay in Türkiye quoted separately and flights not included.

How much does it cost to lengthen both femurs and both tibias?

Femurs and tibias are lengthened in two separate stages, and each stage costs €40,100 in Istanbul, so both together cost €80,200 for the surgery. Each stage also means about three months in Türkiye, and that stay is quoted separately. Flights are never included. Ask the partner team how long they recommend between the two stages before you plan dates.

Why are some Turkish limb lengthening quotes cheaper than €40,100?

Press reports have cited Turkish prices from about €22,000 to €45,000. Il Post said the lower figures apply to base methods and that the more advanced, less invasive devices cost about €45,000. A cheaper quote may cover one bone pair with an older device, fewer follow-ups or no complication plan, so compare the device, bones, follow-up visits and complication cover in writing.

How much cheaper is limb lengthening in Istanbul than in Germany or the UK?

One stage costs €40,100 in Istanbul. The Stuttgarter Zeitung puts Germany at €60,000 to €160,000, so Istanbul is at least €19,900 less per stage. Euronews puts UK private treatment above £50,000 (€57,000), at least €16,900 more than Istanbul. Those gaps are before the three-month stay in Türkiye, which is quoted separately, and before flights, so compare the total.

How common are complications after cosmetic leg lengthening?

Complications are common enough to plan for. Euronews reported a study in the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research in which 30 to 45 per cent of 760 patients had complications, including infections. NHS England warned of infection, nerve damage, blood clots and permanent disability. Ask the partner team how they monitor you during the three months and who treats a complication.
