Arm Lift

Brachioplasty — arm lift — removes excess skin and fat from the upper arm, restoring a defined, toned profile. It is the right operation for patients left with sagging arm skin after significant weight loss, or with age-related laxity that no amount of weight training will ever reabsorb.

The common thread among patients who arrive here is the same: a body hard-won — through bariatric surgery, through years of diet, through training, or more recently through GLP-1 medication — is "betrayed" by arms that still tell the story of the old body. Brachioplasty is the operation that takes away the last reminder.

Who the arm lift is suitable for

The right candidate has significant skin laxity of the arms that diet, exercise and weight training cannot resolve, stable weight — within fifteen per cent of target weight, typically after a year of post-weight-loss stability, is a non-smoker at the time of surgery, and consciously accepts a visible scar running along the inner arm. That scar is the inevitable trade-off of this procedure, and the thing we must be honest about at first consultation.

The post-weight-loss cohort — including GLP-1 patients

A significant and growing share of our arm-lift patients have lost 15–50+ kg on GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro) over the past eighteen months. The skin envelope left behind is often worse than post-bariatric: fast weight loss, minimal training during the loss, and an older average age at treatment. Arm-lift is one of the operations this group asks for first, alongside tummy tuck. We assess arm skin quality honestly: sometimes you need the full brachioplasty; sometimes a mini is enough; sometimes you are really better served by waiting another six months for the skin to retract. We tell you which at consultation.

The techniques we use

Full brachioplasty

The scar runs from the axilla along the inner arm to just above the elbow. It removes the maximum amount of skin and produces the most dramatic change. It is the correct choice for marked laxity, typical of the post-bariatric or significant post-GLP-1 patient.

Mini brachioplasty (short-scar)

The scar is confined to the axillary area. Suitable for patients with laxity limited to the upper third of the arm — that is, those with predominantly "bat-wing" effect without sagging down to the elbow. Less powerful than full brachioplasty, but with a scar practically invisible in short sleeves.

Liposuction only

For patients with fullness but good skin elasticity, liposuction alone can achieve the goal without any excisional scar. It is not the right choice for significant post-weight-loss, but for a patient in her mid-forties with "full" but still toned-skin arms, it can be the cleanest solution.

At consultation our partner surgeons honestly assess which of the three techniques is right for your case. They do not perform a full brachioplasty on someone for whom liposuction alone would suffice, and do not propose a mini brachioplasty on someone who needs the full operation just to "sell the smaller scar".

The surgery, step by step

Brachioplasty is performed under general anaesthesia in a JCI-accredited hospital, with a dedicated anaesthesiologist present throughout. Duration is two to three hours. One overnight stay in hospital is standard.

The surgeon marks the excision pattern with the patient standing (the only way to correctly draw the skin to be removed), removes skin and underlying fat, and closes with meticulous multi-layer sutures — every additional layer means a final scar that has a better chance of maturing into a fine line.

Recovery

Weeks 1–2

Compression sleeves worn twenty-four hours a day for four to six weeks. Arm movement is limited — no lifting, no pushing. Desk work typically resumes by week two.

Weeks 3–6

Range of movement returns gradually. Light exercise between weeks four and six. Full gym after week six.

Months 3–12

Scar maturation requires a full twelve to eighteen months. Honestly: the scar is permanent and visible in short sleeves, sleeveless dresses and at the beach. For patients who truly need this operation — typically post-bariatric or post-significant-weight-loss — the trade-off is almost always evaluated positively at one year out. Toned arms are worth the scar.

Risks and realistic expectations

Honest risks: scar quality is the most variable outcome — genetics and post-operative care matter a great deal, and some patients develop hypertrophic scars by constitution. Seroma (fluid collection), temporary numbness and asymmetry are possible but not frequent when the operation is performed by experienced surgeons. Manual lymphatic drainage is available as an optional add-on (€100 per session, €250 for three) — it accelerates serum reabsorption and improves final scar quality.

Brachioplasty does not restore muscle. If you also want more muscle tone, that has to be trained separately after recovery — the operation removes skin, it does not build the biceps.

Why not the €1,200 arm lift

On brachioplasty, the rock-bottom price shows up as wide, hypertrophic or displaced scars. A clinic quoting arm lift at €1,200 typically cuts corners on closure: a single suture line instead of three layers, no post-operative lymphatic drainage, no compression sleeves provided. The result is a scar that matures badly and remains visible not as a fine line but as a hypertrophic band three to five millimetres wide — permanently.

Explain how the upper-arm concern affects your day

An arm-lift consultation is more useful when you describe the problem in ordinary terms. You may be bothered by how sleeves fit, a fold you notice when your arms are raised, or the appearance of loose skin in photographs. These are related but not identical priorities. Tell the surgeon which matters most and what change would make the operation worth considering for you.

The ASPS arm-lift overview identifies brachioplasty as treatment for sagging upper-arm skin and localised fat. It does not establish the appropriate technique for an individual patient. Ask the surgeon to explain what they observe in your case and which concern the proposal addresses. Avoid treating the smallest possible incision as your goal before understanding the result that incision can deliver.

Map the scar while your arms are in different positions

Ask to see where the proposed incision sits with the arm beside your body, raised and extended. A description such as “inner arm” is a starting point, not a complete explanation of visibility. If the proposed incision extends toward the armpit or beyond the upper arm, request an explanation of that extra scope and its trade-offs.

Bring a photograph of the sleeveless clothing you usually wear. This helps you discuss your preference without expecting a scar to disappear. Also mention previous scars that healed in a way you disliked, and any treatment you received for them. Ask what scar-care advice will be supplied, who reviews a concern and whether additional treatment would be charged separately.

Check whether the plan covers the concern near your armpit

Some patients describe an upper-arm concern that continues into an adjacent fold. Ask the surgeon to identify what belongs to the proposed arm operation and what is outside it. The aim is to avoid assuming that all nearby skin will be addressed just because the areas touch.

If additional surgery is discussed, ask whether it changes the scar, price or recovery plan. If you prefer to keep the operation limited, request a clear explanation of what may remain. This is also a useful moment to discuss existing differences between the arms. The plan should account for your starting anatomy without promising exact symmetry or identical scar healing.

Plan recovery around how you use your arms

Write down the tasks that involve reaching, carrying or pushing: washing your hair, fastening clothes, opening heavy doors, lifting children, walking a dog or moving stock at work. Ask which restrictions apply and what help you should arrange. A general desk-work estimate does not tell you whether your actual work duties are suitable.

Consider what you can prepare before leaving home. Put frequently used items where you can reach them easily and arrange help with luggage. Ask about garment fastening, wound care and whether you need another person to assist. Request instructions that distinguish a routine concern from something needing assessment. Do not substitute an online exercise timetable for the clinician's instructions.

Understand the listed combination and accommodation

As of October 2026, the arm-lift starting price is €3,250 all-inclusive, flights excluded. The catalogue describes an arm lift with liposuction and five package nights. It does not define every possible extended operation. Ask for the treated regions and proposed incision in your written quote, together with the exact hospital/hotel division of those nights.

Flights, additional nights and optional services are separate. Deniz extra nights are €70 each; Antwell adds €40 per night. Massage or drainage is optional at €100 for one session or €250 for three, if clinically advised. Ask about garments, medication, tests and follow-up individually before treating them as confirmed inclusions. Five package nights is an allowance, not automatic permission to fly when they end.

Evaluate examples by more than a smaller circumference

Ask for images that show the scar and overall contour, with an explanation of when the postoperative photographs were taken. Find out whether liposuction or another operation was performed at the same time. If an example looks similar to your starting point, ask which similarities are meaningful and which are not.

A photograph should help you ask questions about proportions and scar placement. It cannot show every aspect of sensation, healing or comfort. You can review liposuction separately if you are considering a fat-focused alternative, then ask the surgeon whether it addresses your actual concern.

Does an arm-lift quote cover nearby chest skin?

Ask for the boundary of the proposed treatment. Nearby folds should not be assumed included without explicit assessment and pricing.

What if I cannot arrange lifting help?

Discuss that constraint before booking. The clinician should explain restrictions, and you can assess whether to delay until suitable support is available.

Can I choose my incision location?

You can explain your clothing and scar preferences. Ask the surgeon which options are appropriate and what each option leaves unresolved.
