Every procedure carries risks. The treating professional should assess suitability and explain expected benefits, complications and follow-up before you consent.

A back lift removes the rolls of loose skin and stubborn fat that form across the back and bra line, usually after major weight loss. It flattens the upper-body silhouette and lets clothes sit smoothly — the part of a post-weight-loss body that diet and training cannot reach.

Who a back lift is for

The right candidate has excess skin and fat folds across the mid- and upper-back, often with visible bra-line rolls, that remain after significant or bariatric weight loss, or with age. Weight should be stable. A back lift is frequently combined with an arm lift or a body lift to treat the whole upper body in one trip.

The procedure

Excess skin and fat are removed and the incision is placed so the resulting scar sits along the bra line, where it is hidden by underwear or a swimsuit. Liposuction is often combined to refine the contour. The operation takes 2 to 3 hours under general anaesthesia with one overnight stay.

Honest expectations

The trade-off is a horizontal scar across the back. We plan it to sit under the bra line, but it is a real scar and the honest exchange for removing the folds. Swelling settles over several weeks and the final contour appears by three to six months. As with any lift after weight loss, results are best once weight has been stable for six to twelve months.

Why Estetica Istanbul

A back lift is performed by our partner plastic surgeon Dr. Narmin Mammadova in a JCI-accredited hospital; Dr. Akın İnalöz, our lead partner surgeon, reviews every case, with medical oversight from Dr. Güleş. The all-inclusive package covers surgeon, hospital, hotel and transfers — flights excluded — with an English- and Italian-speaking team throughout.

Discuss the scar as part of the result

Bring examples of the clothing you normally wear to the consultation. Ask the surgeon to show where the proposed incision would lie and how it relates to your own folds and clothing. Do not assume a scar can be hidden by every bra or swimsuit simply because the procedure is described as a bra-line lift.

Describe the problem in more than one position: standing, sitting and wearing ordinary clothes. Ask what the operation is intended to address and what will remain. A clear explanation of those limits is more useful than a photograph promising a completely smooth back.

Decide whether one area or several need treatment

Ask the surgeon to distinguish the upper-back concern from changes around the waist, arms or lower body. If several operations are proposed, ask why combining them is recommended and whether staging them would be reasonable.

A larger package should not become the goal of the consultation. Explain which area matters most to you, how much time you can set aside for recovery and what help you can organise at home. Those constraints belong in the planning conversation before you accept a combined quote.

Make the practical recovery plan specific

Ask how the proposed surgery affects reaching, dressing, washing and the type of work you do. A desk-based job and a job that involves lifting need different questions.

Clarify whether you need help during the stay, how appointments are arranged and what additional support is charged separately.

Compare the written plan before booking

Identify the exact operation in the quote, any proposed liposuction or additional lift, hotel nights and the aftercare arrangements. Flights are not included. Ask what happens if the examination changes the plan and who approves any extra charge.

Will a back lift address every roll around my torso?

Ask the surgeon to mark the treatment area and explain the areas outside it. Do not infer whole-body coverage from the procedure name.

Can I choose to treat one area first?

Discuss a staged plan and ask how it compares with the suggested combination. Clinical suitability comes before package convenience.

Should I choose an operation mainly because its scar is described as hidden?

Understand both the proposed contour change and the scar placement for your anatomy. Request realistic examples and an explanation of uncertainty.

Decide whether the concern is skin, fat or both

Ask the surgeon to explain which part of the fold comes from excess skin and which comes from underlying tissue. Discuss whether liposuction alone, skin removal, a combination or waiting would fit your anatomy. Less extensive treatment is not automatically the appropriate treatment, but neither should an excision be assumed from the name of a package.

If the concern follows weight loss, explain whether your weight is still changing and whether you have an existing nutritional care plan. Ask how those factors affect the recommendation and the decision to operate now. Ask how weight stability is assessed for your case.

Include healing problems in the scar discussion

Use the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' body-lift risk guide to ask about fluid collections, wound healing, infection, altered sensation and clots. Ask which risks apply to the extent of the proposed back lift and any combined operation. General body-lift information does not establish a partner-specific complication rate.

Ask how dressings, any drains and checks would be managed when the wound is difficult to see or reach yourself. Clarify who can help with the prescribed tasks and what symptoms need examination. A friend can assist with agreed practical care, but should not have to decide whether a wound problem is medically significant.

Compare an isolated lift with the actual combination quote

As of 8 October 2026, the published price list lists back lifting from €3,450 with five package nights. Ask whether the proposed liposuction, arm lift or wider body-contouring plan is included or separately priced. A back-lift floor does not price a complete torso operation. Flights are excluded.

Ask about clothing, reaching overhead, sleep position and lifting luggage in relation to your actual incision. The five-night allowance does not determine when a wound check, drain removal or flight is appropriate. Request a plan that allows the surgeon to extend your stay if needed and identifies the extra travel and accommodation costs.

What if I cannot see the wound clearly at home?

Discuss a practical inspection and care plan before leaving. Ask who receives photographs, when an in-person examination is needed and whether local wound-care appointments should be arranged. Do not assume that photographs alone can settle every concern.
