Who is a good candidate?Crown materials — EMAX vs. zirconia vs. PFMThe procedureRisks and realistic expectations

A dental crown is a full-coverage restoration that wraps around a damaged or aesthetically compromised tooth, restoring strength, function, and appearance. Crowns are indicated for teeth that have been heavily filled, root-canal-treated, fractured, or significantly discoloured — and for patients seeking a Hollywood smile transformation across multiple teeth.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Teeth with large fillings or weakened structure.
  • Root canal-treated teeth that need full protection.
  • Discolouration that does not respond to whitening.
  • Full-smile aesthetic transformation across multiple teeth.

Crown materials — EMAX vs. zirconia vs. PFM

Zirconia

Our default for most posterior crowns and many anterior cases. Extremely strong, excellent long-term outcomes, and with modern multilayered zirconia the aesthetics rival any material.

EMAX (lithium disilicate)

The gold standard for anterior aesthetics. Superb translucency and light-behaviour that mimics natural enamel. Slightly less strong than zirconia, so we prefer it for front teeth where aesthetics lead the decision.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM)

The traditional standard. Durable but can show a grey line at the gum over time as gums recede. Rarely our first choice today except in specific cases.

Our recommendation

Full zirconia or multilayered zirconia for molars and premolars. EMAX for visible front teeth where maximum aesthetic quality matters. A mixed approach across a full smile makeover is common and sensible.

The procedure

Typically two to three visits across three to five working days — ideal for a combined consultation and treatment trip. Teeth are prepared, scanned digitally, and the crowns are manufactured in our in-house laboratory. Final cementation usually occurs in the last visit.

Risks and realistic expectations

Crown longevity averages ten to fifteen years, with best-case lifespans of twenty-plus in well-maintained mouths. The material removal during preparation is permanent — a crown is committed treatment, not reversible. Conservative case selection prevents over-treatment.

What Our Patients Say

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of dental crowns in Istanbul?
Porcelain crowns cost from €150–250 per tooth depending on material and complexity. Multiple crowns qualify for package discounts. Smile makeover packages available.
How long does the crown placement process take?
Two appointments typically: preparation (90 minutes), then placement 1–2 weeks later (45 minutes). Some clinics offer same-day crowns using CAD/CAM technology.
Is crown placement painful?
Tooth preparation is painless with anesthesia. Post-placement sensitivity is normal for 2–3 days and easily managed. Sensitivity gradually resolves within a week.
How long do porcelain crowns last?
Quality crowns last 10–15 years with good oral hygiene. Some patients enjoy 20+ years. Regular flossing and non-aggressive brushing extend crown life.
What are the risks and complications of crowns?
Decay under poorly fitted crowns and nerve damage from over-preparation are rare. Chipping is uncommon with modern materials. Our placement accuracy exceeds 98%.
Can I get multiple crowns at once in Istanbul?
Yes. Full smile makeovers with 6–12 crowns can be completed in 2–3 weeks with staged appointments. This avoids long-term travel costs and accelerates results.
How do I maintain my crowns during travel back home?
Crowns are durable enough for immediate normal use. Avoid very hard foods for the first week. We provide care instructions and global warranty coverage with our clinic partner network.
