Otoplasty Cost 2026: Turkey vs UK, US, Germany and Italy

Otoplasty, the operation that sets prominent ears closer to the head, is one of the shortest procedures in cosmetic surgery, yet its price varies roughly threefold between countries. The short answer

What otoplasty involves

Otoplasty corrects ears that stick out, usually because the natural fold of the cartilage never formed or because the bowl of the ear is unusually deep. Through an incision hidden in the crease behind the ear, the surgeon reshapes or stitches the cartilage and sets the ear back. It takes one to two hours under local or general anaesthesia, and most patients leave the same day wearing a supportive headband. NHS funding is decided locally and is tight: Derbyshire's policy, typical of many, funds pinnaplasty only for children aged 5 to 18 with a significant deformity. Adults pay privately.

United States: $4,625 before the extras

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons gives an average cost of $4,625 for cosmetic ear surgery and states that it excludes anaesthesia, operating room facilities and related expenses. A realistic American total therefore sits well above the headline number, especially under general anaesthesia. Otoplasty is also a low-volume operation in the US: ASPS counted 4,825 cosmetic ear procedures in 2024. Insurance rarely covers adults, except for reconstruction after injury or a congenital deformity.

Germany: €2,500 to €2,900

Statutory insurers occasionally fund correction in children where a medical or psychological need is documented, but adults almost always pay themselves.

Italy: €3,284 on average

GuidaEstetica's database, built from prices submitted by 77 Italian specialists and updated on 1 September 2026, gives a national average of €3,284 and a range of €1,300 to €6,000. City averages differ: €3,150 in Milan and Rome, €3,400 in Florence, €3,900 in Turin and €2,000 in Messina. The low end usually means a single ear under local anaesthesia; the top end reflects senior surgeons, general anaesthesia and private-hospital fees. The public system rarely funds cosmetic ear correction for adults.

Turkey: from €1,720, and what sits inside it
